About..

First, what’s MoGraph?

Mograph is a short way for Motion Graphics, the art of moving visuals based on animating forms, texts, shapes, icons and sometimes characters. Using images and filmed video sequences is also popular in Motion Graphics works.

How I got to it?

I’ve been attracted to Media Design in general since an early age. I’ve always payed close attention to TV program visuals and have been particularly attracted to all styles of broadcast design. I excelled in making animated presentations in high school and quickly become a “star” at visual design within my class while at university. I was quickly asked to create the main visual branding for the annual forum presenting the university for my class.
After graduating in science and technology, I shifted to media design through a dedicated in-depth 3D production training. The program allowed me to cover CGI techniques and professional visual design practices. My end of study project was widely acclaimed by the trainers and students and attracted the attention of a lot of studios as I was applying for jobs.

Motion Graphics happens to be also a rapidly evolving and continuously changing field. With popularity only came a vast range of complex, swiftly changing trends. I saw and still see many different ones each year and was challenged several times to work on unfamiliar ones to me. I started when 3D production was at peak and impressing CG prowesses where very acclaimed. My training did a great job at providing me with the right skills at the right time. I then slowly become aware of the potential, practicality and growing popularity of 2D animation in motion design. Fast to render and with more flexibility to solely handle full projects on long distance works, 2D has become my go to discipline. Many studios started also relying on 2D Motion Design and it was a good opportunity for me to adapt my skills and portfolio to the market as well.
While 2D required considerable additional work on concept, graphic design, compositing and mostly animation to sell, it was, for me, still a good deal comparing to instantly impressing, but excessively time consuming, technically challenging 3D!

Over 10 years, I’ve moved, thus, between several Motion Design practices while acquiring a rich and comprehensive visual design background. From 3D (on 3Ds max) to 2D, 2.5D then back to 3D (on Cinema 4D) and actually a mix of 2D and 3D, I see myself somehow a “MographNomad” (Motion Graphics Nomad). A “nomadic” journey both virtually and physically as I’ve experienced the industry in various geographical locations. I collaborated with a multinational team in Dubai, worked with agencies in Morocco, met with world class artists in Vancouver and studio owners in Malaysia, but also collaborated remotely with clients from all around the world…

I consider this “nomadic” aspect in my career a particularly enriching one. Nomads have some special stories to tell about their trips, travels and encounters and have got perhaps something rare and interesting they’ve brought from a far-away land. Seeking a special purpose while moving and compiling gained experiences from the past, they’ve got wisdom and perspicacity.

I’d like to invite you to discover a fascinating world of visual magic, enriched by passion, long distances, stories and rich know-how!
